lastly, the use of unconventional materials was something that stood out at De Montfort on the whole. The collection from Charlotte Booty, featuring hundreds of cable ties woven into knit that almost looked like fur was stunning. Plastics were woven together in macrame techniques to create cuffs and neck details.
Charlotte Booty's stand really caught my eye when I visited the exhibition but unfortunately it was too busy to get any decent photos. Her collection (below) is incredibly inventive, using zip ties of varying lengths to create unique shapes and textures.
I featured Charlotte Booty's work in one of my GFW round ups as I was struck by how unique her collection was; she used cable ties of varying lengths to create new and interesting textures. Unfortunately, I didn't get chance to speak to Charlotte at her stand as she was whisked away to speak to more people who were unsurprisingly interested in her work. However, Charlotte has since been kind enough to answer some questions and tell me a little more about the idea behind her graduate collection.
This was by far the most assured collection of graduates I have seen so far an in particular Charlotte Booty caught my eye as one to watch for the future - so watch this space!
Using an otherwise idle object; the plastic cable tie, was cleverly used to create volume and give life to the collection. A combination of knitwear, leather and simple tailoring, cable ties created an almost feather-like effect on drop-waist shirt dresses, midi dresses and jackets.

Plastics were woven together in macrame techniques to create cuffs and neck details.

Amongst the cable ties, was also a lot of fringing and some extremely bold pieces of jewellery. I loved this collection and was fascinated to talk to her!
but my personal favourite was Charlotte Booty. I love her use of colour and textures, it was fantastic to see the way the fabrics moved on the catwalk.
Charlotte Booty is a graduate of De Montfort University, who utilised zip ties as a focal point of her graduate collection; an innovative use of something you would certainly not usually associate with fashion. FAKE spotted Charlotte’s work at her stand at Graduate Fashion Week.
